So, I am sitting here at home working on the biographical sketches of Baldwin County free people of color (I am also doing similar work for Mobile fpc), and I am locating various people in some census records. For instance, in 1850 Catherine "Soures" was listed with Peter "Soures" [aka Swarris, Suares] a white man, and others. Ten years later Catherine appears as Catherine Keys (listed with her two sons -- see her 1880 census entry for relationships). In 1870 Catherine appears as Catherine Anderson, now residing with John Anderson (black). I just found them in 1880; she appears as Catherine Johns -- her husband appears as Anderson Johns. I won't even mention the children or other family members. Ah, so much fun! ha
